Chestnut King by N.D. Wilson

At present, I'm reading N.D. Wilson's new book, and the final book in the Hundred Cupboards Trilogy, called Chestnut King.

100 Cupboards was good, I thought when I read it :: one of those books that you never want to stop reading.  It captures a very unique feeling that is very applicable, and once you've read it, it shows up everywhere, in your life and in your writing especially.  It's hard to describe, but it's along the lines of finding stories and potential and mystery everywhere, and seeing the poetry in daily life all along the way.

Dandelion Fire is the same, only bigger, epic-er, more amazing.  More and more singular charries, more and more incredible sequences and concepts, more and more creativity unleashed.

And now, Chestnut King, which I haven't finished, so I won't say much about.  It looks to be following the path of its predecessors.  Which I can't complain about!

Because, dang, this guy can WRITE.  I've never seen a style quite like his, and It. Is. Blooming. Amazing.  It's raw, vivid :: like a toothache, it reminds me of.  Like a cold, piercing pain.  Not that it's always painful or stressful or scary (although there's a large amount of TERRIFYING stuff in it, just little details that can really freak you out if you're not careful), but it's always honest.  Which is a very interesting concept in a book.

Anyhow, I've rambled long enough.  I'm also reading some Francis Schaeffer, and Beowulf again for the enth time.  I'll write you up a thesis-length adoring post all about Beowulf sometime too. :)  It's still my favorite.

Sorry there aren't any pictures today, but nothing was really picture worthy, or else the camera was out of reach.  I spent some time dancing the minuet with the Small People (giggle) and then taught them the Philadelphia Chicken Jive, which was a lot more fun!  :)  Dancing with kids is so much fun :: no standards, no appraisals, you just bounce them around and make use of some of that energy!  :)

Craaaaaazy weekend coming up, so posts might be slow (*GASP* HORRAHS!) so sorry in advance!  Check in with me anyhow, and leave me comment.  If you leave an URL with your name, I like to check out your blogs, too.  See you then!

PS :: A program anagrammed my name for me, and this is what it came up with ::

  • A is for Ambitious
  • M is for Moral
  • Z is for Zany (really, what ELSE are they going to come up with for a Z?)
  • I is for Intelligent
And what's funny is, all of those are true!  Although there ought to be an H, for Humble! :P :P :P
